Original Antique Framed Engraving, “Paris and Oenone” after Angelica Kauffman for your consideration. The framed engraving measures approx. 11 inches X 13 5/8 inches and approx. 1 1/4 inches thick. The print measures approx. 7 3/4 inches X 10 1/4 inches. 18th Century, London. Hand colored, stipple engraving after Angelica Kauffman (Swiss, 1741-1807), engraved by Francesco Bartolozzi (Italian, 1727-1815). Engraving is under glass and encased in an antique wooden frame.
Scene depicts lovers carving memoir into tree. Greek mythology. Oenone, a fountain nymph of Mount Ida and the daughter of the River Cebren, with her beloved Paris, a son of King Priam of Troy. Oenone and Paris had a son, Corythus, but Paris deserted her for Helen. -Brittannica
