Description
Antique Japanese Maki-e Lacquered Jubako Bento Box for your consideration. The box measures approx. 9 1/2 inches tall, 9 inches wide and 9 inches deep. Japanese, Meiji period. Three tier lidded black lacquer wooden box with gold gilt hand decorated scenes on every side. Scenes include garden settings with deer, birds, and humans with mountainous pagoda architecture. Top of the lid shows tree limbs with full moon or sun in sky. Under lid is decorated with three red-headed cranes in flight against powdered gilt lacquer. Powdered gold gilt lacquer covers the interior sides, bottoms and bases of each tray. Overall, good antique condition. Shows wear commensurate with age and use. Lacquer loss along edges and several other small losses throughout. See photos. Displays lovely!
