George III Mahogany Knife Box

18th Century Mahogany Knife Box Fitted for Documents & Letters for your consideration. The knife box measures approx. 14 inches tall, 8 1/4 inches wide and 10 3/4 inches deep. Constructed of mahogany wood. Marquetry satinwood medallion on top of lid. Beautiful serpentine curved front. Brass key escutcheon and double hinges. Interior of box has been fitted with three divided stationary compartments. Printed paper label on base reads, “Order No 10 NY 13593A” “Dept 449” “50329305” “01”. Overall, good antique condition. Shows wear commensurate with age and use. Key is missing; box opens and closes properly. Cracking and crazing to wood. A few small areas of chipping. See photos. Displays handsomely!
