The painting measures approx. 4 1/2 inches X 5 3/4 inches. Continental, likely French, 19th Century. An exquisite and authentic European school miniature portrait painting depicting a romanticized young lady holding a basket of fresh flowers. Meticulously hand-painted in watercolor and opaque gouache on heavy artist card stock, this original fine art piece captures the delicate stippling, rich textures, and soft lighting characteristic of late Georgian and Victorian era portraiture. The painting is beautifully preserved under museum quality glass, custom-cut cream-colored mat board overlay, protective heavy card backing, all housed in its original, beautifully ornate gilt metal frame featuring an elegant openwork ribbon-and-garland bow crest.
The artwork has been carefully inspected and is structurally sound with no paint flaking or loss. Very good original condition. Shows minor wear commensurate with age. Some dark toning lines that are only visible when the mat is removed. As you can see, the frame is missing the foldable stand on the back. See photos. Displays lovely!
