Authentic Pre-Columbian Taino Shell Amulets for your consideration. Each amulet measures approx. 1 inch long, 3/8 of an inch wide and 1/8 of an inch thick. The amulets are in a display case that measures approx. 2 3/4 inches X 2 3/4 inches and approx. 3/4 of an inch thick. Caribbean, Saint Thomas, USVI, Taino (Arawak) pre-Columbian, c. 400-1200 AD. Three zoomorphic zemi shell amulet beads made of shell. Differing opinions of what these amulets are fashioned as and what they were used for. Likely, the Taino people used these as jewelry and quite possibly as currency & trade. These amulets resemble a side profile face, likely a zemi deity, each containing a singular hole for the eye. These amulets were acquired in St. Thomas, USVI. The amulets are in excellent antiquity condition. Shows wear commensurate with age and use. See photos. Displays archaic!
