Rare & Authentic Antique Japanese Carved Wood Mokugyo Fish Drum for your consideration. The drum measures approx. 6 1/2 inches tall, 5 1/2 inches wide and 3 1/2 inches deep. Japanese, Taisho- Period. Hand crafted, carved, lacquered and gilded; mokugyo, fish Zen temple, altar chanting meditation drum. This wooden instrument was used by monks and laity involving the recitation of sutras, mantras, or other Buddhist texts. It serves to keep rhythm during sutra chanting. Very good antique condition. Shows wear commensurate with age and use. Striker for drum is missing. See photos. Displays unique!
