19th Century Staffordshire Transfer Childs Tea Cup made by Whittaker & Co. for your consideration. The cup measures approx. 2 inches tall. Transfer decorated applied handle. Blue transfer imagery on outside of cup depicts an old lady (The Farmer’s Wife) looking out the window. The other side depicts an old lady with dog at cupboard (Old Mother Hubbard). Inside rim of cup is transfer decorated with the phrases, “OLD MOTHER HUBBARD WENT TO THE CUPBOARD” and “THE FARMERS WIFE SHE JUMPED OUT OF BED”. On base of cup is British registry number, “Rd No 103739” dating this cup to 1888. Images taken from a children’s book titled, “Favorite Rhymes for the Nursery” published in London by Thomas Nelson in 1870. The cup is in very good condition. Shows wear commensurate with age and use. Small chip to rim. See photos. Displays splendid!
