Original Antique Francis Wheatley’s Cries of London, “Turnips & Carrots” Framed Engraving for your consideration. The framed print measures approx. 16 inches X 19 1/2 inches and approx. 1 1/2 inches thick. The print measures approx. 12 1/8 inches X 15 1/2 inches. Georgian time period; England. Stipple engraving by Thomas Gaugain (1748-1812) of painting by Francis Wheatley (1747-1801). The engraving was published by Colnaghi & Co. in 1797. Engraving depicts young maiden with donkey hauling produce. A young man is in the background with a look of interest in what the young lady is peddling. Titled, “CRIES OF LONDON” “Turnips & Carrots ho. Carottes & Navets”. Further attributes and copyrights towards the bottom of the picture. Engraving is under glass and in period walnut frame with decorative gold gilt inner border. Overall, good antique condition. Shows wear commensurate with age and use. Moderate discoloration. Slight waves and minor creasing. A bit of moisture residue towards the bottom. See photos. Displays excellent!
