Rare & Original French Bronze Elk Sculpture on Marble for your consideration. The bronze elk on marble sculpture is very large, measuring approx. 24 3/4 inches long, 19 inches tall and 6 inches wide. France, early 20th Century. Artist, George Omerth, active 1895-1925. Art Deco, bronze on marble. Wonderful sculpted stag standing on back haunches with front legs supported on raised marble block. Marble pattern alternates between a dark stone with pronounced veined variations, contrasted with a lighter, sandy color of natural striations, creating a gorgeous plinth accenting the majestic Wapiti. Etched signature, “Omerth” in back right corner of marble base. Good antique condition. Shows wear commensurate with age. Right antler has been restored with crack still showing. The sculpture would have originally had an arrow sticking through the elk’s neck which is no longer present. Minor flecking to marble edges. Condition issues are not overly noticeable except under closer examination. Beautiful natural patina. See photos. Displays magnificent!
