Description
Antique Chinese Guanyin Buddhism Brass Stamp Seal for your consideration. The stamp measures approx. 4 1/2 inches tall, 2 1/8 inches wide and 1 3/4 inches deep. East Asia, China. Qing Dynasty to Imperial Period, ca. 19th century CE. Brass stamp modeled with the bust of Guanyin, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. “Bodhisattva” is derived from Buddhism and is constructed from the Sanskrit root bodhi, meaning “awakening” or “enlightenment,” and sattva, meaning “being.” Essentially, the word translates as a being who is on the way to becoming an enlightened buddha. The brass square stamp seal displays four Chinese characters. Additional Chinese script is inscribed on the verso of the bust. Overall, good antique condition. Shows minor wear commensurate with age and use. Natural patina. A bit of a raddle when shaken. Two holes to the back of the piece. See photos. Displays interesting!
